Structural design and construction management
The building is an extension of the adjacent hospice. The floor level separation is equipped as a seismic joint in relation to the movements of the relative structures.
To avoid noisy work for the hospice, the support works for the new excavations were built with staggered reinforced concrete blocks, then using these works as load-bearing structures.
The elevated structures are traditional in reinforced concrete also with intrados beams to support the overlying steel structure of the attic.
The structural peculiarity of the building is represented by the “bridges” over the adjacent hospice, made of pre-stressed prefabricated beams with adhering strands of approximately 15.60m span, with an overall height of 200cm, which support the suspended deck of the floor below and the metal carpentry deck of the attic.
